WIOCC Overview

WIOCC has rapidly become established as Africa’s carriers’ carrier, offering operators and ISPs a one-stop shop for Africa and international bandwidth. WIOCC owns 30% of EASSy and is using this as the basis for creating a unique high-capacity 'ring around Africa’ which gives WIOCC unrivaled ability to meet the full range of customers’ capacity requirements. As well as EASSy, WIOCC has investments in EIG, SAT3, SMW3 and WACS. WIOCC has implemented an ‘east+west coast’ diversity proposition to address customers’ immediate demands for improved resilience.

Carrier customers can take advantage of a one-stop shop contract for cost-effective, reliable and seamless connectivity between numerous city Points of Presence (PoPs) and landing stations throughout Africa and the rest of the world. WIOCC's 14 shareholders’ terrestrial fibre networks and partner networks interconnect 30 southern and eastern African countries over more than 50,000km of optical fibre, serving 400 African locations. This is for the first time opening up access to many land-locked countries in Africa’s interior – specifically;

WIOCC's reach is expanding to 12 countries along the west and northern coasts of Africa, and its network extends internationally to 700 cities in 70 countries globally. International carriers meet WIOCC at its hubs in London, Port Sudan, Djibouti, Mombasa and Mtunzini, where they hand-off traffic for delivery into Africa. African operators do the same for onward transfer to international destinations, financial & commercial centres and internet exchanges.

WIOCC offers a range of services to African and international carriers, extending the reach of the EASSy network to Asia, Middle East, Europe and America.

Unique High-capacity Ring Around Africa
WIOCC is investing heavily in multiple cable systems to secure the lowest cost base and greatest diversity. As well as being the largest shareholder in EASSy, a 10,000km fibre-optic cable running along Africa’s east coast between South Africa and Sudan, WIOCC has made strategic investments in WACS and EIG - two new high-capacity cable systems running the length of Africa’s west and northern coastlines respectively. These investments complete a unique high-capacity ring around Africa, enabling WIOCC to address its carrier customers’ demands for cost-effective, high-bandwidth, resilient connections.

Terrestrial Fibre Footprint
Extensive shareholder and partner networks provide backhaul, local tail and last mile reach - the largest terrestrial fibre footprint in southern and eastern Africa, extending across more than 50,000km of terrestrial fibre-optic network and interconnecting more than 400 African locations across 30 countries.

Connectivity To Landlocked Countries
Backhaul networks interconnect 10 landlocked counties across the region.

International Reach
WIOCC’s international connectivity, which offers diverse routes via east, west, south and north African coasts, extends network reach to 100 cities in 29 countries in Europe and more than 700 cities in 70 countries globally.

Flexible Contract Terms
A choice of contract terms to suit your needs and growth patterns - from a 1-month lease to a 20-year IRU, with pay-as-you-grow and lease-to-IRU options.

Collapsed Ring Configuration
EASSy is the only cable along the East African coast based on a “collapsed ring” design that minimises the impact of cable cuts and equipment failure.

Scalability
Capacity is available to meet all requirements, from a single E1 (2Mbps) to multiple STM64 (10Gbps) wavelengths.

End to end Managed Services
WIOCC’s 24/7 customer service desk provides end-to-end management of WIOCC services from customer site to customer site anywhere on the WIOCC network, liasing with the entire supply chain to set up and manage WIOCC circuits.

Non-discriminatory Open Access
Services are available to small, medium and large telcos, ISPs and other organisations.
