James Wekesa

James leads strategic affairs, regulatory engagement, stakeholder relations and client experience for WIOCC Group. As Group Chief Strategic Affairs Officer, he plays a key role in strengthening the Group’s market position, protecting its licenses to operate and advancing strategic growth across Africa’s digital infrastructure sector. He works closely with governments, regulators, shareholders, strategic partners and key clients to support commercially important and policy-sensitive priorities across the Group’s markets.

James has more than 25 years’ experience across sales, marketing, business-to-business operations, general management and strategic project execution in the telecommunications and ICT sectors. He joined WIOCC in 2009 from Afsat Communications Group, where he held senior leadership roles including General Manager, Kenya and Group Head of Special Projects.

James holds an M.B.A. from ESAMI/MsM, project management certification, CIM certification and completed his undergraduate studies at JKUAT. His interests include community service, keeping fit and travelling.
